Run and trace programs
Launch a program
Section titled “Launch a program”Start a VM. To use a host file, choose Upload file, select the host file and guest destination, and set its executable permission when needed. Uploading a file does not run it.
Choose Launch program and configure:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Executable | Path inside the guest |
| Arguments | Arguments passed to the program |
| Working directory | Initial guest working directory |
| Environment | Environment variables for the run |
| User | Guest credentials used to execute it |
| Run in | App terminal or a supported guest-desktop launch mode |
| Static Analysis | Optional categories to analyze before execution |
Confirm Run. The run’s terminal accepts input and shows output. The trace includes the launched process and its descendants. Process identity survives ordinary CPU migration and PID reuse in the observed history.
Desktop programs
Section titled “Desktop programs”On a desktop base, Run in offers Guest desktop and Guest desktop terminal as well as App terminal. The chosen guest user must already be logged into the graphical session on the VM display.
Desktop choices keep the program in the run’s process tree. If no matching session is available, read the explanation in the app terminal.
Attach or broaden the capture
Section titled “Attach or broaden the capture”Attach to process traces an already-running guest process and its future children. Capture all observes userspace more broadly without starting or signalling those programs.
In 0.3.0, Capture all retains a process tree with call counts, names and exit codes. Select a process to narrow the displayed calls. A system-wide capture can produce much more data than tracing a single launch.
Read and control the run
Section titled “Read and control the run”Syscall Trace shows calls, arguments, results and captured data. Category filters help narrow the list. Select a row and inspect its details; decoded flag names retain unknown bits.
Stop ends the run and its child processes. Closing a process terminal does not stop its program.
Terminals resize the guest PTY grid and keep up to 10,000 history lines. Scroll to earlier output; Shift+End or the newer-lines control returns to the latest output.
Panels can be detached and docked again. View → Reset layout restores the default layout. Tools → Settings adjusts text size.
