Troubleshooting
Missing app dependencies
Section titled “Missing app dependencies”Open Tools → App dependencies and use the package hint for the failed check. After installing it, select Check again. VM startup rechecks requirements before allocating guest RAM or launching QEMU.
For a terminal report:
antinomie --check-dependenciesOptional capa, Ghidra and Detect It Easy adapters are managed separately in Tools → Analysis tools.
QEMU has no GTK display backend
Section titled “QEMU has no GTK display backend”Installing the QEMU emulator alone may not include its graphical backend. On Debian/Ubuntu:
sudo apt install qemu-system-guiqemu-system-x86_64 -display helpThe supported displays should include gtk. Also check that Antinomie is running in a graphical host session.
KVM is unavailable
Section titled “KVM is unavailable”Check whether /dev/kvm exists and whether your user can open it. Enable hardware virtualization and, for a virtualized host, supported nested virtualization. Host distributions commonly grant access through the kvm group; group changes require a new login.
Select TCG in the VM settings when KVM cannot be used. Desktop guests and heavy workloads will be slower in software emulation.
Base catalog reports “invalid type: null”
Section titled “Base catalog reports “invalid type: null””The public catalog briefly contained nulls in the newest BusyBox entry’s guest and resource fields. The catalog was corrected on October 10, 2026.
Select Refresh catalog in the base download dialog to fetch the corrected document. Existing 0.3.0 installations need no app or guest update for that catalog repair. A custom mirror must publish values matching the catalog schema.
QMP connect for RAM layout: No such file or directory
Section titled “QMP connect for RAM layout: No such file or directory”The host could not connect to the VM’s QEMU control socket. Check the preceding startup error or QEMU output: the emulator may have exited before creating the socket.
Stop the failed VM, check dependencies and its acceleration/display settings, then start it again. On remote desktops, a missing QEMU GTK backend is one possible preceding error; the socket error itself does not identify a single cause. Do not create an empty socket file manually.
Guest desktop launch has no session
Section titled “Guest desktop launch has no session”Log into the guest desktop on the QEMU display as the user chosen for the run. Then retry Guest desktop or Guest desktop terminal. Use App terminal when a graphical session is unnecessary.
Static analysis is unavailable
Section titled “Static analysis is unavailable”Check bubblewrap installation and whether the host permits its sandbox setup. Read the report’s unavailable/error reason and the optional-tool dialog. Installing an optional analysis adapter does not repair a missing bubblewrap runtime.
Slow guest or growing loss counters
Section titled “Slow guest or growing loss counters”First confirm KVM versus TCG, then inspect host memory, CPU and storage pressure. Trace a single program before using Capture all on a busy desktop.
Never drop can slow the guest while waiting for the host. More RAM helps only when the workload is memory-constrained; extra CPUs need host capacity and can increase concurrent telemetry. See telemetry settings before tuning buffers.
Panel layout is confusing
Section titled “Panel layout is confusing”Use View → Reset layout to restore the default dock arrangement. Adjust text size in Tools → Settings.
